Albertus van der Heiden Father The van der Heiden family is mourning the loss of Albertus and Albert van der Heiden, who passed away within a few weeks of each other. Albertus passed away November 7, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a prolonged battle with dementia. He was born March 7, 1925 in the Netherlands. He married Maria Ydema in 1952. In 1956 he immigrated to Utah with his family to be near his twin sister, Henny, where he lived for nearly 50 years. He worked many years at Wonder Bread, retiring from the Union in 1991. He taught his family to work hard, enjoy nature, appreciate the bonds of family and instilled the joys of living in the moment and being present for those around you. He often took our hands and asked if we needed anything or could he do anything for us, even in the midst of dementia. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria; son, Albert van der Heiden. Survived by twin sister, Henny Walters; children: Andre (Jeannette) Yonker, Johanna Semon, Bert (Gaylia) van der Heiden, Leslee van der Heiden; 7 grandchildren. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Brightworks Cottage and Brighton Gardens for the quality care and support provided to our dad. A celebration for the lives of Albertus and Albert will be held Saturday, November 13, 2010, 5-9 p.m. at the home of Bert and Gaylia. Please contact us by email at jo.semon@hotmail.com. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
