Allen E. Powell, a lifelong resident of Pima, passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at the age of 88. Allen was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma on July 13, 1927 to Allen and Sulia Williams Powell and then moved to Arizona with his family in 1929. He has lived in the Gila Valley ever since.Allen married his high school sweetheart, Beatrice Taylor, in 1948. Allen and Bea were married for a remarkable 67 years last August. Allen worked most of his adult life for the AZ Motor Vehicle Division. There are many people in this valley who probably got their first driver's license from Allen. He was a "people person" and had many friends of all ages. He was well-liked and was well known for his great sense of humor. He was a kind, tenderhearted person, who always had a soft spot for the underdog. He also loved sports, music, lapidary and the great outdoors. He was an avid reader.Allen's greatest love was his family: his wife, his siblings, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Bea, of Pima; one daughter, Susan (Kip) Bingham of Pima, one son, Scott (Joni), Powell, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ron, in 2007.A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pima Chapel, on Hwy. 70, in Pima. Interment will be in the Pima Cemetery.
