Alma Martin, 97, of Safford, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at her home in Safford. She was born on July 17, 1915 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Howard Gibbons and Della Baird. Alma attended school in the Ft. Worth area, she married Coy Martin in Ft. Worth, TX, and they were married over 60 years before he passed away. Alma worked as a Short Order Cook at the Safford Recreation Hall for over 25 years. Her longtime friend Robert Ossmann introduced her to loving sports; she would sit in her chair, sew her blouse, and watch sports on the television, work on jigsaw puzzles, and watched the traffic on 5th Ave. Everyone is going to miss that little red-headed lady in the window on 5th Ave. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Thompson of Safford, and Marie Martin of Safford; a son, Roy Martin of Safford; 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Leon Martin, a daughter, Della Moore and a daughter-in-law, Lydia Martin, and two granddaughters, Lori Ann and Lisa Ann Martin. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Safford Cemetery, with Pastor Andy Madrid officiating.
