Antonio S. "Tony" Cervantez Antonio S. "Tony" Cervantez age 83, went to join our mother and father on February 6, 2020, in Phoenix, Arizona. Tony was born on August 2, 1936, in San Jose, AZ to Antonio & Frances Cervantez. He was the firstborn of 5 children. He is survived by his twin sisters Mary Lou McKinney of Safford, AZ and Mary Ellen Gonzalez of Flagstaff, AZ, his brothers Joe of Denver, CO and Richard from San Jose, AZ. He is also survived by his very close friends Dennis, Jim, Terry and his work buddies at the San Carlos Hotel. Tony grew up in San Jose and went to school in Solomon, then on to high school at Safford, graduating in 1954. Tony joined the United States Air Force in 1955, went to basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas, then teletype training at Warren AFB in Wyoming. He was then transferred to Scott Air Force base in Illinois for training in Cryptography, for military intelligence. Then 2 years in Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya. He returned to Lackland AFB for the last 6 months of service and was honorably discharged in 1959 as an Airman 1st Class. When he returned home he decided to go to the Phoenix area where he made his home until his passing. Tony worked at the San Carlos Hotel for the past 49 years. He really enjoyed his job, always said he was treated like family there. He had made a lot of friends during his time there and the last few years his friends Dennis and Christina were always fun and they liked to tease him. Tony liked working the night shift and sometimes those were very trying but got through them all. Even in his last days, he said he had to get to work. Tony was a loving son, brother, and uncle and will never be forgotten. His services will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. the Saint Rose of Lima Church. The interment will follow directly after.
