Arthur Tapia, 76, of Safford, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Safford surrounded by his loving family. Arthur was born March 5, 1937 in Morenci, Arizona to Vicente Tapia and Genoveva Munoz. He graduated from Morenci High School. Arthur married his loving wife Nora on November 29, 1963 and two daughters and a son were born of this union. Arthur was employed as a Mechanic with Phelps Dodge and retired in April, 1999. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country in the Korean War. Arthur was active with the St. Vincent de Paul and Cursillista. He enjoyed gambling, fishing, and camping. He also loved being a father, grandpa and great-grandpa. Arthur is survived by his children, Veronica Chavez of Silver City, Arthur (Carrie) Tapia of Safford, and Theresa (Mariano) Casillas of Maricopa, his siblings, Abram Munoz, Consuela, Isabelle, Irene and Eleana, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Arthur is preceded in death by his spouse, Nora Tapia, grandson, Matthew Jake Chavez, brothers, Gilbert and Eloy Tapia, and mother, Genoveva Munoz. Viewing and Rosary will be on Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, viewing at 9:00 a.m. with Rosary to follow at 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 by Rev. Father Edward Lucero. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
