Arthur L. Thompson Grumpy Our Dad returned to his Sweetheart in the early morning hours of Oct. 25, 2009. Dad was born Feb. 13, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama, son of LeRoy and Ethel Mae Leck Thompson, the youngest of three children. His mother died when he was very young. He lived with his grandmother and sisters until he left home, and was on his own, around 12 years old. He lived most of the time, until he turned 17, in a tree-house with a cardboard roof which needed replacing almost every day due to the high humidity. Dad joined the Army in 1942 and served in WWII under General Patton, to quote him, The best General there ever was! He came to Salt Lake after the war to see family here and met the love of his life, Eudora Heaton. They were married June 29, 1946, only 5 months after they met ~ it was a match made in heaven. They had 62 wonderful years together. Mom went to prepare heaven for him in 2008 Heaven will need all the warning they can get before he gets there! They were the parents of two daughters, Ellen Adams and Dianne Thompson. He was a member of the LDS Church. Dad worked in the grocery business for over 25 years. He would go into a store that was failing and put it back on its feet. He also worked at A&R Meats for several years and did security work until he retired at age 83. He was a natural born cop and had many SL Co. Sheriff friends which he stayed in contact with until he died. Dad is survived by his daughters; 3 granddaughters; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. We would like to sincerely thank the staff and aides at Legacy House Assisted living in So. Jordan. They were wonderful and treated him like family. We would also like to thank Symbii Hospice staff for their caring help in his final days.
