Bernon Auger

November 23, 1916 — November 7, 2007

BERNON JENSEN AUGER Till We Meet Again Bernon Jensen Auger, 90, our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and Big Papa, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 23, 1916 to William Henry and Alta Jensen Auger in Glendale, a farming community in Franklin County, Idaho. He grew up in the Preston area, and graduated from Preston High in 1937. His childhood was eventful, teaching him to work hard, endure trials, and to serve. He was called on a mission to Norway, and when WWII broke out, he completed his mission in Minnesota. Bernon worked a farm in Idaho, took whatever jobs were available after the depression, drove truck for a time, and worked over 30 years for Utah Power, retiring in 1981. On June 10, 1942, he married and was sealed to Quida Griffiths in the Logan Temple. Together, they had four children. She died on July 24, 1988 after suffering for years from the effects of a serious auto accident. During that time Dad was her caregiver, which service he provided with patience and love. On February 13, 1990, Bernon married and was sealed to Janice Kay Jenkins (Duckett) in the Jordan River Temple, embracing Janices children as his own. They resided in the Taylorsville area until his death. He was an active and diligent member of the L.D.S. Church, serving in many callings, including genealogical examiner, Bishop, High Priest Group Leader, Stake High Councilor, temple worker, and Stake Patriarch in two stakes, and always a home teacher. He accepted assigned callings, but his life was one of voluntary service, given unselfishly and long. He fixed things for people at no cost, he refinished more furniture and antiques than we can count, learned to quilt, made the best pies, and taught his granddaughters to make his famous peanut brittle. He personally researched about 3,000 family names for temple work and organized the genealogy and family histories of his entire family and that of his first wife for distribution to posterity. He is survived by his wife, Janice; two brothers, William (Dionne) and Hyrum (Veda); son, Larry (Sharon); daughters, Aundrea (Jim) Hamilton, Dianne (Steven) Faurschou, and Janet (Lawry) Sheriff; daughters, Jacque Hardman and Kendra Van Grol; sons, Devin Duckett (Julieann) and Jeremy Duckett; foster son, Jim Hewitt; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Big Papa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Quida, his parents, William and Alta Auger, brothers Howard, Verl, Arnold, Daniel, Lorenzo and Nathan; sisters, Loretta Sharp, and twins, Melva and Elva. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at 12:00 noon at Bennion Utah West Stake Center, 3555 W. 5620 So., Taylorsville. Family and friends may call prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Road. Interment will be in Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road, under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
