Send Flowers Bill Smith August 30, 1929 - October 10, 2012 William Edward Smith, or Bill as he was known, 83, of Safford, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 8, 1929 in Safford, to Joseph Edward Smith and Iva Jane McBride. He married Pearl Jennings on March 12, 1961, in Lompoc, CA. Bill grew up on the Smith Jersey Farm in Safford. He joined the National Guard, and then U.S. Air Force where he was an Aid for the General, for twenty years. When he returned home he worked for the Graham County Canal Company as the Ditch Boss for six years. He loved the outdoors, he loved to raise vegetables and loved to feed the cattle. He is survived by his wife Pearl of Safford; four sons, Dan (Teresa) Bigler of Pima, Howard Glenn (Cris) Smith of Tempe, William M. Smitty (Shanda) Smith of Safford, and Robert Henry Rocky (Mary) Smith of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Nancy Bigler of Utah; siblings, Susie Jane (Marlin) Boswell of Safford, Ann (the late David) DeSpain of Safford, and Bud (the late Maxine) Smith of Safford; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Safford LDS Stake Center. Viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery.
