Carmen Duran

Carmen M. Duran, 79 of Mesa, formerly of Morenci, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 28, 1931 in Morenci. She married Arsenio Duran, on June 29, 1951 in Morenci; they were married for 43 years. Arsenio passed away in May of 1994. Carmen spent most of her life in Morenci. She graduated from Morenci High School in 1950 and in her later years she worked as a custodian for the Morenci Schools for over twenty years. Carmen was an amazing cook, sports enthusiast, and loved to decorate her home, especially during the holidays. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Duran of Safford, Arsenio (Shelly) Duran, Jr. of Tempe, Robert Duran of Tempe, Annette Duran of Mesa, and Richard Duran of Burbank, CA; siblings, Maria Luisa Varela, Max (Tonita) Marin, Alicia (Martin) Jimenez, and Eduvina Rodela; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
