Carolyn Curtis, a cherished resident of Safford, Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2024, at the age of 86. Known for her kind heart, vibrant personality, enormous generosity, and deep love for her family, Carolyn left an indelible mark on everyone who had the joy of knowing her.

Carolyn was born on June 17th, 1938, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Agnes and Cantrell Anderson. From an early age, she displayed a remarkable zest for life and a passion for connecting with people. Her professional journey was defined by her dedication to the community as President of the Safford-Graham County Chamber of Commerce and her leadership as Chairman of the United Way. Alongside her husband Gary, Carolyn owned and operated Curtis Real Estate in Safford, Arizona—a business established in 1977 that has served the community for over 47 years. As a Broker, Carolyn not only led the business with distinction but also provided employment opportunities to many residents. She was instrumental in organizing charitable events and initiatives that enriched the Safford/Mount Graham community. Her achievements earned her widespread admiration and respect.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Carolyn was a trailblazer in local civic engagement. She actively participated in numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing community well-being, from spearheading economic development efforts to mentoring young professionals. Her legacy of service and leadership continues to inspire others.

Carolyn’s memory is cherished by her children: Gary (Kathie) Jackson, Russell (Juliana) Jackson, and Michael Scott (Shelley) Jackson. Her legacy of love shines through her grandchildren: Paul Jackson, Jennifer (Daniel) Rasmussen, Mary (Maren Henley) Batterson, Emily Batterson, Caroline Jackson, Jace Jackson, Bobbi Jackson, and Jenna Jackson, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jessica Jackson and Naomi Henley.

She is also survived by her brother, Larry Anderson, and sister-in-law, Linda Anderson, as well as her stepchildren: Kathi (Roger) Martin of Mesa, Bridgette (Brendan) Balmes, Maddy, Austin, Logan, and Grant Balmes, Kelly Cherry, Dale (Janet) Curtis, and Mindy Curtis (Dan Brandstatt). Carolyn’s step-grandchildren include Jennifer (Sam) Houston of Oakland, CA; J.D. (Chelsea) Cherry, MacKenzie, Charlotte, and Lily Cherry of Tucson; Erin (Blake) Worthington; and Ryan (Serenity) Hale, Luke, Ryan, and Lorelie Hale.

Her presence and kindness will be deeply missed by a wide circle of friends, neighbors, and all whose lives she touched.

Carolyn shared a beautiful life with her loving spouse, Gary Curtis, building a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, whose unconditional support and warmth enriched the lives of her children. Her family was the center of her world, and her legacy lives on through their cherished memories. In her leisure time, Carolyn delighted in spending time with her husband and family at their beach residence in Rocky Point, Mexico. She had a unique talent for hospitality, creating warm and inviting spaces that brought joy to those around her. Carolyn also had a love for cooking, and sharing her talents with friends and neighbors, further endearing her to the community.

Carolyn is now reunited with her husband Gary Curtis, her brother Clyde Anderson and sister-in-law Minnie Anderson. Her spirit will continue to inspire those she left behind.

A memorial for Carolyn will be held on December 28th, 10:00 AM, at McDougal/Caldwell Mortuary, 112 E. Main St., Safford, Arizona, 85546. A private viewing will be available from 9:00 AM to 9:45 for family and close friends. Carolyn will be interned at Safford Cemetery after services and a celebration of life will be held at the Branding Iron starting at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Carolyn’s honor. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her legacy and remember the joy she brought to so many.

Carolyn Curtis will be remembered as a beacon of love, faith, and kindness. Her life story is a reminder of the beauty of a well-lived life and the enduring impact of a loving heart.
