Biography Nancy Catherine Stringer, 88, of Safford, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 24, 2012 while living at the J & B Assisted living in Thatcher. She was surrounded by all four of her children and numerous grandchildren. Catherine and her twin sister Lucille were born August 18, 1923 in Citronelle, Alabama to Judson Carey and Bessie Pearl Babcock. Later her family moved to Mobile, Alabama were she attended school and graduated from Murphy High in 1941. After graduating from High School, she worked several years as a secretary in the office of Murphy High until she met and later married A.L. Buck Stringer in Woodward , Oklahoma, on June 7, 1944. In January of 1945 Buck was deployed to Okinawa during WWII. While gone Catherine returned home to family in Mobile and later gave birth to their first child Cheryl in august of 1945. After Buck returned from the war in 1946, he and Catherine lived in Mobile for the next fifteen years and raised three more children, Steve, Doug, and Debbie. In 1961 the family moved to Bisbee, AZ, where Buck worked for Phelps Dodge Corp. until 1969 when he was transferred with the mine to Morenci, AZ. They lived in Morenci until Buck retired in 1984 and then relocated to Safford for the duration of Catherines life. Catherine enjoyed numerous camping and fishing trips to San Carlos Lake with family and friends. She also enjoyed many hours of entertaining and loving her four children, 9 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. While living in Safford her and Buck where active members of the New Testament Baptist Church, and donated much of their time helping and doing for others. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Buck after 47 years of marriage; her parents; a younger sister; and an older brother. She is survived by her Twin, Lucille Graham of Mobile, AL; her four children, Cheryl (Henry) Smith of Collbran, CO, Steve (Ellen) Stringer of Grand Junction, CO, Doug (Shellie) Stringer of Safford, and Debbie Boland of Safford; and numerous grandchildren. Catherine will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a fantastic mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and wife. WE WILL FOREVER LOVE YOU MOM!! Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel, 112 East Main Street, Safford, with Dr. Phil Tutor officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 1:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
