Cecil Hawthorne

January 28, 1944 — May 20, 2009

Cecil Jay Hawthorne Sr. Old Man Our fisherman, husband, father, papa, uncle and friend left to be with our heavenly father on May 20, 2009 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Jan 28th 1944 in Wolverton, Oklahoma to Viva Wade and Delter Hawthorne who have preceded him in death. The things he loved most were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved spending time with them, taking them on long walks through the Jordan Walkway and fishing from the banks of the Jordan River, and the many trips to Wendover he made with his kids. Cecil was also an avid outdoorsman, teaching his children the highlights of the outdoors and teaching them how to hunt and fish, with fishing being his main love of life. Cecil was a very caring person, helping out anyone, even if he didnt know them. If you ever knew the man you knew that he would stop whatever he was doing to help out a friend. Cecil made many friends in his walk through life, he worked for 23 years at the Tooele Army Depot, doing what he loved, working with sheet metal. He instilled the love of metalworking in 2 of his sons. He retired from the Army Depot in 1994. The hardworking stubborn old man soon got bored with just sitting around the house, so he hired on at SteelCo. in 1996 until he permanently retired in 2008. The last year Cecil spent his time with family and friends being as always the best father, grandfather, and friend possible. Every day was a constant battle for Cecil, but he was stubborn to the end, even on his last day, not giving up on life. Cecil will always be missed by his beloved wife, Sandy; children: Cecil Hawthorne Jr. and Tiva Martinez, Tracy Freeland, Anthony Hawthorne, Patty and Troy Shipp, David Hawthorne, Jamie and John Kunz, Joey and Kinda Hawthorne; 17 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. The Family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr James Pearl, Dr. William Nibley, Kenny Garcia, Deedee Larrabee, CareSource and the nurses and staff at Intermountain Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be held Tuesday one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a fund to help Cecils widow with medical bills at America First Credit Union.
