Clarence Max Herzog 1923 ~ 2009 Clarence Max Herzog, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peaceably Wednesday, February 4, 2009. He was born June 14, 1923 to John W. Herzog and Sarah Rasmussen Herzog in Magna, UT. He fulfilled a mission for the LDS Church in Canada and later married H. Ione Labrum Herzog on May 5, 1948 in the Logan Temple. He attended BYU and later graduated from the University of Utah. He was an active member of the church, serving in several capacities including, Bishops Counselor, High Councilor, Stake and Ward Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, and Choir Director. He served the children of Utah as an elementary and high school teacher for 34 years, finishing his career as an elementary school principal, and serving as president of the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. Music was a great part of his life, playing trombone with several professional big bands at the old Salt Air, the Rainbow Rendezvous and most recently with the Phoenix Jazz & Swing Band. He is survived by his wife, Ione; children: Karma (Dr. R. Charles) Ward, Craig (Karen); 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the West Valley 1st Ward, 3963 South Peachwood Drive (3450 W.) Viewings will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
