Concepcion Salazar

Concepcion Conchita Salazar, 76 of Safford passed away on August 15, 2013. Conchita was born January 15, 1937 to Carlos and Francisca Cordero Lopez. She moved to the valley in 1991 and will be remembered for her musical talent for which she has won several awards. She always talked about her marriage to the love of her life, Tony, and the birth of her six children, her visit to the Holy Land, and receiving communion in the Grotto of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Her hobbies included first and foremost her singing, crocheting, camping, gardening, family functions, sports, reading, and traveling. Conchita was a member of Coro Mensajero, Altar and Rosary Society, Messengers of Mary and the Spanish Choir, Cursillo. She was also a volunteer at the nursing home. Conchita is survived by her children; Tony (MaryBelle) Salazar, Oscar (Carleen) Salazar, Christie (Victor) Salazar-Sanchez, Javier (Nancy) Salazar, Hector (Danielle) Salazar, and Jaime (Becky) Salazar; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Olivia Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Irma Armenta, Emilia Gastelum, Jorge Francisco (Patricia) Gastelum. She is preceded in death by her husband, Antonio C.; parents, Carlos Lopez and Francisca Gastelum Cordero; step-dad, Enrique Gastelum, and brother, Enrique Gastelum, Jr. A Viewing and Rosary will be held Monday, August 19, 2013 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima. Interment to follow at the Safford Cemetery.
