Consuelo Garcia, 90, of Geronimo entered into rest on September 20, 2013. Consuelo Connie was born September 29, 1922 to Pedro and Mercedes Robles in Thatcher, AZ. She grew up in Thatcher among 7 siblings and enjoyed dances at the San Jose Whoopi Hall during her late teens. It is there she met Demecio Mencho Garcia (1914 2000) whom she married in Lordsburg, NM in 1942. Mencho & Connie spent 58 happily married years together as the settled onto their family cotton farm in Geronimo. She quietly held the checkbooks while Honest Mench worked the soil and made social rounds. She was a wonderful cook with a knack for green tamales, hand rolled tortillas and zesty, red, carne adovada. She spent many years working for the Ft. Thomas Elementary School as a teachers assistant and electoral poll worker. Consuelo is survived by her children: Arnold (Lupe) Garcia, and Adrella Carter, four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and her first great-great grandchild. Consuelo is preceded in death by her spouse and her dear granddaughter, Tammy Garcia Ramirez. Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. with Rosary being recited by Father Robert Rodriguez at 10:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Safford cemetery.
