Daniel Maughan Burbank 1920-2010" Our husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather Daniel Maughan Burbank passed away at the age of 90 on June 2, 2010. Daniel was born in Weston, Idaho on February 9, 1920 to Clifford and Viola Burbank. He graduated from Weston High School. He attended Albion State Normal School and the University of Idaho before seeking employment in Oakland, Ca. Daniel married Dorothy Andrus in the Salt Lake temple on October 1, 1942. Daniel was stationed in Italy with the 36th Division of the 5th Army during WWII. He was given a battlefield commission and received a bronze star for valor. He returned to his family three years later, and rose to the office of Lt. Colonel in the National Guard. Daniel and Dorothy raised five children. He held many positions in the LDS church and was a faithful member and home teacher until the end. He worked for American Protective Services for 25 years as the Sales Director. He continued his military service as a member of the California National Guard and served with the guard during the Watts Riots, Peoples Park, and Hunters Point before he retired from the military in 1985. He was a true patriot and loved his country. He lived an active life, and in retirement he traveled with his wife and helped care for his grandchildren. Daniel was an avid golfer and played up to the last month of his life. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy, his sons: Daniel E. and Paul A.: daughters, Susan E.Ferguson (Alan), and Diane A. Cassens (Bruce); 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his twin sister Dorothy Golightly (Hal), and sister Ione Cottle. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Grant, Wilson and Robert; and youngest son, Timothy. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 ,11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Jordan 4th Ward, 3676 West 4700 South, West Valley City, Utah. Viewings will be held Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Monday at the church,10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Weston Idaho Cemetery.
