David L Calloway, 42, was born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico. He graduated from Silver High School in 1994 and enlisted in the US Army in January of 1995. After the military, he returned home and worked as a tire repairman and construction worker.
He loved fishing, four wheeling, anything outdoors, especially if a mud hole was involved. His Grandpa Eugene always said if there was a mud hole within a 2-mile radius, Dave would find it.
Grandpa always called him Possum, and while in high school his friends nicknamed him Bird, because of his height and his resemblance to basketball player Larry Byrd. Many friends didn't know his name was Dave, they only knew him by Bird.
When asked how are you doing today, his reply was always the same, "Happy Dave". He would thank his visitors as they were leaving each time by saying, "Thanks for coming by", and he meant it. He thanked his family and his caregivers & hospice team for anything they did for him, even the smallest of gestures he would mention.
On August 17, 2017, David lost his battle with Huntington's Disease. He never once complained & made the best of every day he had, he fought courageously till the very end.
His guilty pleasure was a 4-piece pack of Reese's peanut butter cups, sometimes 2 or 3 every day. The family kept Reese's packs by the dozen on hand, that was the only thing that could rile him up a little, "What do you mean we're out of Reese's?"
Whether very happy or really upset, Dave's sparkling blue eyes would tell the current mood, the beautiful sparkle in those eyes will be missed greatly.
David was preceded in death his grandparents, Eugene and Ethel Amos, and grandfather Bill Calloway, baby sister Melissa, Aunt Dinkie (Donna Amos), and Uncle Paul B Amos.
Surviving David are his Mom, Joani Amos, Dad, Danny Calloway, brothers Shad (Dawn), and Matthew (Amanda), Grandmother Mary Calloway, and several nephews, nieces, cousins & relatives that loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to defer David's final expenses.
Memorial Services for David will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Southern Baptist Church in Duncan, Arizona and on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Harvest Fellowship Church in Silver City, New Mexico.
