David Newell DeSpain, 81 of Safford passed away at his home on January 9, 2011. He was born December 7, 1929 to Alvin N. & Margaret Grace Layton DeSpain in Safford and received his education there. David worked as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic for many years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving where he was called. David married Ann Smith on November 3, 1948 and they were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple in 1951. David is survived by his wife of 62 years Ann DeSpain, children Sharan (Deon) Black, Chris (Dorothy) DeSpain, Tisha Clark and Todd DeSpain, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Nottingham and Mary Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark A. DeSpain and 4 brothers. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the 20th Street LDS Chapel by Bishop Neal Montierth of the Safford First Ward. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel from 6 7 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services at the Church. Interment will be in the Thatcher Cemetery.
