David Ray Morton was born December 6 , 1940 in Perry Iowa to Gwen and Paul Morton. They moved to Safford when David was 9mos.David attended Safford Schools and went in to the Army in 1959. When David returned in May of 1964 he met and married the love of his life Peggy Cates. David passed away on February 14 at his home in Safford. He is survived by his three children Becky Reyna, Debbie Morton , Chuck Morton, his brother Bill Morton, 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him like a father. David worked for 35 years at Phelps Dodge as a locomotive mechanic before retiring. After retirement David still kept busy and went to work for the Select Cleaners in Safford for 10 years where he truly enjoyed his work. There were so many things David loved to do he loved working on old cars which was his hobby. Many days you could find him at Walmart getting his exercise and visiting with everyone. David always had a smile and never met a stranger. He was a loving and wonderful husband and father and would do anything for his family. David loved to sing a song "I ain't here for a long time, I'm here for a good time." and that is how he shall be remembered always having a good time. A Celebration of life will be held at the Manor House Convention Center on Friday 22nd from 6pm until 8pm. Please come out and help us celebrate David's life.
