David Earl Red Savage 1935 ~ 2008 Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Dave Savage, age 73, passed away July 12, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his family. Born April 3, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Ven Ransler and Erma Leal Shurtleff Savage. Dave was raised on a ranch in Eastern Montana where he learned the value of hard work, along with his 5 brothers and sisters. He was Valedictorian of Sumatra High School where he was a star basketball player. He was also an avid golfer. Following an LDS mission to the Southern States, Dave graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Utah State and a Masters Degree from BYU. On September 23, 1960 he married the love of his life, Judith Thelma Smith in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in various callings throughout his life. Daves professional career as a teacher and coach took their family to Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming and finally Panguitch, Utah. Though golfing, BYU sports and coaching provided much enjoyment, his greatest pleasure came from spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and siblings. Dave is survived by his sweetheart, Judy; their children: Bryan (Annmaree), Mike (Joanne), Wendy (Dave) Thomas, Lynnette Toronto, Ranse (Kami), Jon (Cristy), Ben (Laurel) and Jacklyn (Derrick) Nelson; 25 grandchildren; siblings: Oran (Mary), Sheri (Gordon) Flygare, Connie (Robert) Sant, Ven (Patti) and Sue (Steve) Page; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Paulette. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 12 noon at the Salt Lake 12th Ward, 630 East 100 South, where a viewing will be held Tuesday, 10-11:45 a.m. prior to services. A viewing will also be held Wednesday, 1 - 2:30 pm at the Panguitch 2nd Ward and a graveside service following at 3:00 p.m. in the Panguitch City Cemetery, Panguitch, Utah.
