David Scroggins

David Scroggins, Sr. was born October 6, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to the late Melvin & Rebecca Scroggins. He was one of thirteen children. He was taken home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2025 in Glendale, Arizona.

David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Winnie Jewel Scroggins. David leaves the legacy of one surviving son: David Scroggins Jr. (Glendale, AZ); six surviving daughters: Evelyn Scroggins Oliveri/Lawrence Oliveri (Globe, AZ), Wanda Owens (Los Angeles, CA), Carol Scroggins Baylor (Tucson, AZ), Winnie Scroggins Moore/Kelley Moore (Glendale, AZ), Toni Scroggins Miller (Tucson, AZ), Beverly Scroggins Cruz/Carl Cruz (Thatcher, AZ); 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren, and a host of adoring relatives, cherished friends, and church family members, whom he loved. David Scroggins also leaves 5 surviving siblings to cherish his memory: Herbert Scroggins (Savannah, GA), Willie Earl Scroggins (Safford, AZ), Sheila Irvin (Phoenix, AZ), Mildred Scroggins King (Phoenix, AZ), Muriel Scroggins (Phoenix, AZ).

David was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Rebecca Scroggins (Asher); his daughter Cynthia Scroggins Erving: his brothers Billy Ed Scroggins, Melvin Scroggins Jr, Joe Scroggins, Allen Scroggins, Jerry Scroggins, Rafael Scroggins, Edward Scroggins, Herman Asher Jr, Robert Scroggins Sr; his sisters, Susie May Graham, and Karen High.

David was active within the church community. He served the Lord at New Jerusalem Church Of God In Christ in Safford, Arizona. He was passionate about his church and the work of the Lord, achieving the title of Ordained Head Deacon by the late Bishop Leroy Robert Anderson. David was a good listener, full of wisdom and knowledge, and always shared a positive word of encouragement.

David worked as a truck driver, car dealership detail shop mechanic, and school bus driver in his early years, among other jobs, before becoming a lube shop technician for Phelps Dodge/Freeport-McMoRan mining corporation for over 25 years. David was well liked by his employer and fellow employees. He spent time helping his community and fellow congregational members. He has many dear friends throughout the communities of Safford, Phoenix, and Tucson AZ to mourn his passing.

Deacon Scroggins, without a doubt you will be truly and sincerely missed!

David's funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Methodist Church in Safford beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by his interment in the Safford Cemetery.
