David Lee Smith, born on July 17, 1937, in Dickens, Texas, passed into eternal rest on November 24, 2024 in Safford, Arizona, Three years to the date after the passing of his first wife and mother of his Children Claire Evans. He lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and to his family and community. David was not only a devoted husband and father but also a successful professional whose career spanned various fields.

Professionally, David was a renowned truck driver and auto mechanic, showcasing his skills through his business, Smiths Auto. His work ethic was unparalleled; he was known as the hardest working man by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. David's service to his country included being drafted into the US Army in his early 20s, where he served state side at the Walter Reed Hospital, further emphasizing his commitment and dedication to supporting others.

Education played an important role in David’s early life, as he graduated from Escondido High School in 1955. This foundation allowed him to develop the skills that would serve him throughout his career in auto care and repairs, as well as other passions.

David's hobbies reflected his hands-on nature and love for the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking, rock hounding, and auto repair, interests that allowed him to express creativity and ingenuity. His family fondly remembers the many projects he initiated, sharing quality time together while engaging in these beloved activities.

David leaves behind a cherished family, including his spouse, Mildred Smith, and his children: Abbe Kulhanek, Randall (Virginia) Smith, and Matt (Maria) Smith. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Nataly, Matthew, Rachel, and Hannah, as well as a great-grandchild, Gabriella, who brought immense joy to his life.

He is mourned by his family and friends, including those who knew him throughout his life and appreciated the warmth and kindness he brought to them. However, we also remember the loss of his parents, James David and Rosa Lee Smith, his first wife Clair Evans, and all of his siblings: Wilma, Zola, and Neal, who have preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Safford Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 301 E Main St, Safford, AZ 85546, on December 15, 2024, beginning at 1:30 PM.

David Lee Smith's legacy of hard work, love for family, and passion for life will continue to resonate within the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
