Dee Nielson

July 23, 1934 — June 2, 2009

Dee R. Nielson 1934 ~ 2009 Dee Reed Nielson, 74, lost his courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family on June 2, 2009. He was born July 23, 1934 to Reed Dwaine and Eunice Lovell Nielson in Leamington, Utah. Dee served a two year LDS mission in the Pacific Northwest where he had the opportunity to share the gospel. After his mission, he served in the military during which he spent time in Germany as well as the Southern United States. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Dee married his sweetheart, Ranae, to whom he was happily married for 44 years. He also spent 33 years working for the United States Postal Service and retired in 1999. Dee was a strong example to those in his life and had a love and faith of the LDS Church. He served in the bishopric, as well as other church callings, where he touched the lives of others. He enjoyed spending time sharing and reading stories and laughing with his family. He always looked for opportunities to get his children and grandchildren together to spend time. Survived by his children: Troy and Raina Nielson, Cindee and Greg Hansen, Cheree Finan, Tracee Nielson and Angie Stuart; 7 grandchildren: Cole, Holly, Aaron, Tanner, Aimee, Dwayne and Katrina; brother, Kent. Preceded in death by his wife, Ranae; siblings: Blaine Nielson, Joe Nielson and Donna Haycock. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their valiant efforts over the past year with Dee as well as his close friends and family members for their love and support. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 10th Ward, 4950 South 1950 West. Viewings will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 9-9:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
