Del Mar Bryant Hiatt 1924 ~ 2010 Del Mar Bryant Hiatt was born January 10, 1924 in Springville, UT to Mabel Jane Hatfield and Mark Bryant Hiatt. He was raised on a farm in Salem, UT until he was eleven years old when his family moved to Garfield, UT. Del, as he has been fondly known throughout his life, became the man of the house being the oldest of five living children (three sisters and a baby brother), when his father passed away. He attended Cyprus High School in Magna, UT where he met his sweetheart, Margie Gardiner. She later became his wife. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in September 1943. The war was raging and Del tried to enlist, but because he didnt have an eardrum in one ear, was denied. He did, however, drive army convoy trucks here in the States for the Tooele Army Depot. In 1946 he started his career at Kennecott Copper Mines and worked for 39 years. He retired in 1984 with the title of storekeeper in the warehouse. He and Margie were wonderful dancers and always cut a rug on the dance floor. Del was such a good dancer that all the ladies wanted him on their dance cards. He loved sports, but his favorite was baseball. He enjoyed coaching his two youngest sons in their little league endeavors and he continued in that program long after the boys had outgrown it. He was also a volunteer Sheriffs deputy in Maricopa County in Phoenix, AZ. He spent eleven years in that position and loved every minute of it. He was often teased about being blind in one eye and pulling a gun on someone. He and Margie were blessed with five children two daughters and three sons. There are only three children living: Sherrilyn (Sherry) Brown (Roger), Kelly (Lori), and Mark (Lela). A daughter Jane Nielson (Bill) and a son Darrell preceded him in death. Margie passed away in November 1999. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry (Sandy) and a sister, Maxine (Martin) Winn. His posterity includes 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandkids with one more on the way. He was gruff and sometimes very ornery, but had the heart of a teddy bear and loved his family. He was a wonderful friend. We love you, Del, DAD! .Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where a viewing will be held Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. and again Wednesday 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salem City Cemetery.
