Delsa Jensen

Delsa Farnsworth Jensen, 92, of Virden, NM, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at her daughter's home in Virden, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 12, 1919 in the small mountaintop community of Colonia Garcia, Chihuahua, Mexico. Delsa was the 5th child of Byron Nephi Farnsworth and Maud Cluff. She was a self described Tom Boy and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially fishing. Delsa received her early education in the Garcia school and the Juarez Academy in Colonia Juarez. In 1936 Delsas family moved from Mexico to Virden, NM. She continued her education in the Virden High School. Delsa married Milton Andrew (Andy) Jensen in Safford, AZ, on March 11, 1939. They made their home on the family farm along the Gila River east of Virden. To this union were born five children. Andy and Delsa farmed their entire married life and made vegetables their main farm product. They were known throughout the area for their quality produce. Delsa was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many positions in the Primary, Sunday School, and Young Women organizations. She particularly enjoyed serving as Ward Librarian for nearly twenty years. Delsa was one of 13 children and greatly enjoyed gathering with her siblings and other family members in reunions each year. Together they enjoyed many trips and good times. Their best leisure time was engaging in games of Dominoes. Delsa is survived by her sons, Milton (Rulene) Jensen, Buddy (Sharlene) Jensen, and Rex Jensen, all of Virden; daughter, Vicki (Mike) Pearce of Virden; brothers, Heber Farnsworth of Farmington, NM, and Omer (Farrell) Farnsworth of Fruitland, NM; sisters, Nelda Bloomfield of Mesa, and Geraldine (Richard) Lyautey of Farmington, NM; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren. Delsa was preceded in death by her husband Andy who passed away on March 4, 1996; daughter Delsa Mae; 1 granddaughter, Larae Jensen; and 1 great granddaughter, Emily Jensen. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Duncan LDS Stake Center. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Virden, NM Cemetery.
