Dirk Roothoff

Dirk J. Roothoff 1922 ~ 2008 Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dirk John Roothoff, 86, passed away November 9, 2008 in West Jordan, Utah. Born October 7, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of John Johannes and Maria Veenendaal Roothoff. Married Aileen Louise Larson March 11, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the US Army during WWII. Worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years. He enjoyed racing pigeons, doing genealogy, watching BYU and the Jazz. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survived by wife, Aileen; children: Judy (Jim) Maughan, Debbie (Royden) Orton, Mark, Jan (Lynette); 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sister, Doraine (Hal) Orton; and dearly loved in-laws. Preceded in death by parents; brother, John; son, John Carl. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 12:00 noon at the Welby 4th Ward, 9376 South 4000 West. A viewing will be held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday at the church, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund.
