Donald Fessler

Donald Wayne Fessler, 74, of Thatcher Arizona, entered into rest on Sunday, October 22, 2017, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born on May 5, 1943, in Amarillo, TX, to Thurman and Nellie Fessler. Donald made a career in the U.S. Airforce, we worked as a Civil Engineer. He served his country honorably. Donald Wayne Fessler was born in Amarillo Texas. He was adopted at birth by Nellie and Thurman Fessler. His parents and sister preceded him in death. He was raised in Texas and Oklahoma and joined the United States Air Force at 17. He served his country in the Air Force for 20+ years and was stationed overseas and around the United States. After retiring from the Air Force he moved to Rangely, Colorado where he was the Director of Public Works and then moved to Eagle County as the Director of Public Works. He was very accomplished in his careers leaving his mark as a highly respected and decorated Serviceman and employee. He is survived by his 2 children Brent Fessler and Michelle Sas, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife and love "Darli'n Debi" Debra Huckey Fessler. Donald was known to many as "Fess", and here in Arizona he was known as "Colorado Don" he was very active in all the communities he lived in. He chose to retire in Safford, Arizona in 1998. Though he did not "work" in the traditional sense here, he could never "quit working" so he continued to work with friends and companies as his skills were in demand. Here in this community he supported the American Legion and served as a member of the Honor Guard. He helped many members of this community giving his time and support for their needs. Donald was as giving and supportive as any man could be and was loved by so many people. He was a volunteer, a service member, a father, and grandfather a husband and lifemate who always strived to do his best for everyone. He will be missed in this world but is now with his father in heaven. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Safford. With Rev. Mary Dotson officiating. Military honors will follow at the church. The family suggests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church.
