Dorothy Carli

October 1, 1930 — May 29, 2010

Dorothy Broderick Carli 1930 ~ 2010 Everyone enjoyed her smile, her laugh, her songs and her love. Dorothy had the heart of an angel. On May 29, 2010, she passed away, surrounded by family, after a valiant fight to regain her health due to complications from gallbladder surgery. Born on Oct. 1, 1930 to Charles Spencer and Ingrid Nilson Broderick in Salt Lake, she graduated from West High and shared her love while touching the lives of many by teaching Physical Education for over 25 years in the Granite School District. Combined with her gentleness was great strength which helped her survive open heart surgery, the death of her first husband, Peter Fritz Carli, and to raise five children as a single mom. She studied hard to get her Bachelors degree from the U of U, taking finals one week after having her last child. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, her LDS faith and that she was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Pleasing, and sometimes surprising others, she would often break into song for anyone, even waiters, teenagers and doctors. She had a deep love for, and dedicated her life to, her church and her family. Love permeated her life and actions. We will all miss her playfulness, her smile, her laugh and her songs, but her love and examples of how to live we will keep forever. Surviving her are sons: Tim Carli (Julie) and DeWayne Carli; daughter, Johanna Carli (Frank); daughters-in-law: Joleen, Kathy and Virginia; along with 13 grandchildren, including Sean Carli, who helped care for her; brothers: Grant Broderick (Diane), Heber Broderick (MaryLou); sister, Elizabeth Naumu (David-deceased). Deceased before her were sons: Norman Carli and Stephen Carli; brother, Vearl Broderick; her husband, parents and Jan and Johanna Denbutter. Memorial service, Thursday, June 3, 2010, 11 a.m. at Parliament Park LDS Ward, 3935 S. 1500 W. Viewings, Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S.
