Ed C. Sawyer, 90, of Safford, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 11, 1926, in Glasgow, MT, to WC Tom Sawyer and Alleen Robertson Sawyer.
His family moved to Willcox, AZ in 1927, then to Gilbert for Jr. High School, and graduated form Mesa High School in 1944. He attended Coyne Electric School in Chicago, IL and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 He was stationed in San Diego, CA and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then moved to Phoenix where he met Angie and they were married in 1947. They stayed in Phoenix and later moved to Bisbee and established Copper City Electric which they owned and operated. After 20 years, they sold the business and moved to Safford and opened Industrial Electric Service, which they operated until the present time and is currently operated by his son Dennis. He was the State Commander of the American Legion in 1965. He spent 12 years in the House and 8 years in the Senate.
He is survived by his daughter, Bette Newman (Al) of Chandler; sons, Tom Sawyer (Cindy) of Florida, Ed Sawyer (Debbie) of Awatukee, Dennis Sawyer of Safford, Greg Sawyer of Young, and Cameron Sawyer of Safford; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sweet wife Angie Sawyer.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 9 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Viewing will be one hour prior at 8 a.m. and his eulogy will be read at 8:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
