Eleanor Jean Thompson Jeanie Cherished wife, step-mother, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed through the veil to join her mother, father and sister on May 2, 2009 after an extended battle with cancer. Jeanie was born on November 17, 1949 in Yreka, California to Merlin and Lenore Huntsman. She was the fourth and youngest child born in a deeply religious home. Her parents provided for all of their children a secure, safe and happy home, with the love of the gospel being taught in action as well as in word. Jeanie possessed all of the qualities that Paul admonished, including faith, hope and charity. She was an angel on earth, and many benefitted from her great acts of selfless service, love and concern for others. Jeanie could be found doing goofy things with her nieces and nephews or sharing her love and compassion with the elderly or anyone in need. Upon graduating from high school, Jeanie attended Ricks College for 2 years and completed her education at BYU, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in social work. Following her graduation, she and a girlfriend spent a few months backpacking through Europe together. Jeanie spent an extended career in social work serving the homeless, those in domestic crisis and at-risk families. Through divine intervention, Jeanie met the love of her life, Christopher Kim Thompson, at the Jordan River Temple. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Marvin J. Ashton. The love that brought them together has sustained them through years of joy and trial. Jeanie loved her Savior, who became her best friend during the final months of her illness. She served valiantly in her church callings and found solace in prayer and immersing herself in the scriptures. Jeanie found a great deal of fulfillment in both summer and winter recreational activities, particularly skiing, rafting, hiking, camping and boating, and especially her visits with Kims family at their beach home in Nova Scotia. Jeanie is survived by her devoted husband, Kim; stepson, Brad Thompson of Girdwood, Alaska; sisters, Kathleen (Henry) Werner of Farmington, Utah and Marilyn (Bill) Meeker of Elk Grove, CA; brother-in-law, Larry (Judy) Chesley of Queens Creek, AZ; 19 nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister, Annette Chesley. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 16, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Park 2nd Ward, 5225 South 3200 West. A viewing will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment, Enterprise Utah City Cemetery.
