Elizabeth Moring-Thompson, Betty, 77 of Alpine, lost her battle with cancer and entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her family, on Friday, August 28, 2015. Betty was born April 8, 1938 in Glasgow, Ayrshire, Scotland. She came to the United States at the age of 20 to marry her first love and husband Charlie L. Moring. Charlie was in the United States Air Force so they moved often to follow his military orders. Betty and Charlie had four children and finally were able to settle down in Sacramento, California in 1968. In 1980, after the tragic loss of their first born (Gwendolyn), they moved to Springerville, Arizona for a fresh start. Tragedy struck again on March 15, 1995 when Betty lost her husband of 35 years. After five years as a widow, Betty met and later married a dashing man from Alpine, Milton Thompson. He showed her how to enjoy the beauty of all the seasons that the White Mountains had to offer. She loved the outdoors. Fishing, hauling wood and enjoying the beautiful array of animals in the high country. She was blessed with a green thumb and could grow absolutely anything in any climate. Betty loved to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Any chance she got to attend a sports event that one of them was participating in, she was right there to cheer them on. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Betty was preceded in death by: her father and mother, Peter and Elizabeth Kerr; her husband, Charlie L. Moring; and her daughter, Gwendolyn Moring. She is survived by: her husband, Milton T. Thompson, of Alpine; her son, Stuart Moring, of Eagar; her daughters, Tracey (Wayne) Ferguson, of Safford and Jocelyn (Shawn) Peters, of Eagar; her sister, Jacqueline (Stuart) Glass of Scotland; her brother, Peter (Jeanette) Kerr of Scotland; 6 nieces and nephews, also of Scotland; step children, Greg (Shelly) Thompson and Tommy Thompson; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren. A viewing for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, with a memorial service immediately following at 12 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center in Alpine, AZ. Graveside services will follow at the Alpine Cemetery.
