Elsie Lawrence Demler 1916 ~ 2008 Elsie Lawrence Demler passed away on August 14, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 28, 1916 to Rose Ellen Leigh and Benjamin Raynor Lawrence in Cedar City, Utah. She married Carl Roy Demler on June 3, 1935, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple in March 1969. Elsie grew up in Summit, Utah. She and her best friend Alice had many adventures there. Elsie and Carl spent their early-married years in Salt Lake City. Later, they moved to southern California where Elsie made her home for 27 years. She worked for Safeway Stores for 26 years. In 1980, she moved back to Salt Lake to be with her daughter and grandchildren. Elsie was a very strong and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At age 65 she served a mission in Jackson, Mississippi. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Templefor 12 years. She adored her four grandchildren, spending every minute she could with them. She never missed a concert, derby, recital, soccer game or birthday party! Holiday parties and family gatherings were always more fun with Gram there. Her cute little chuckle, her witty remarks and her easy-going sense of humor made everyone want to be around her. Gram, youll never know how much you meant to all of us and how much we miss you! Elsie is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Jim) Simko. Four grandchildren James (fianc Nicole) Simko, Daniel (Brenda) Simko, Susan (Laurence) Terry, Richard (Rebecca) Simko, One brother, George Lawrence and 14 great-grandchildren. She preceded in death by husband, Carl. Three children, Donna, Lorraine and Ronald Demler. Her parents, and nine brothers and sisters: Alden, Charles, Elizabeth, Raynor, Lavon, Edith, Frank, Reed and Olive. Many thanks to the nurses and aides at Christus St. Josephs Villa for the wonderful love and care they have given to Elsie in her time of need. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 16, 2008, 3:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be from 2-2:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Glen Haven Memorial Park, Pacoima, California. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Josephs villa or Primary Childrens medical center.
