Ernest Weldon Maples Its been a slice of Heaven Ernest W. Maples, 76, passed away peacefully at home on October 1, 2007. Ernie was born in Durham, North Carolina to Leonard LeRoy and Lucy Esther Aldridge Maples. He moved with his family to Salt Lake City at the age of 11 where they resided in the Salt Lake 15th Ward. There he met and married his sweetheart, Carol Roderick in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. On September 4, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Ernie was a faithful member of the LDS Church where he served in many callings. He worked for Western/Delta Airlines and retired after 31 years. He served in the Great Lakes Mission and in the United States Army. Ernie was a gentle, loving man who quietly spent his life serving others. He loved to read, walk on the beach and visit with family. He is survived by his wife, Carol, children; Grant ( Jill) of Riverton, Alan ( Jeri ) of West Valley City, Michon ( Val ) Aldridge of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Bart ( WenDee ) of West Jordan. 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in law. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, October 5, 2007 at the LDS Hunter Stake Building, 3737 South 5600 West. Friends and family may call for viewing on Thursday, October 4, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday 10:30 - 11:30 at the church prior to service.
