Essie Coleman passed away at her home in Safford on February 24, 2010. On April 9, 1924, Essie Coleman was born in Mesquite, TX, to the parentage of the late Marshall and Roberta Penagraph. Her parents later moved to Dallas, Texas where she received her formal education. Later in 1953 she moved to Safford, Arizona to take care of her sister the late Katherine Webb. During that time she met and married the late K.C. Coleman. To this union no children were born. Later they became foster parents to Madeline Manuel-Cho who preceded her in death. She also had three brothers Israel Penagraph, Marshall Penagraph Jr., W.P. Penagraph, and sister, Celestell Lowe, all of Dallas, Texas, that preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories six grandchildren, Teddy, Stella and Rudy Andazola, Dalphena, Catrina, Timothy, and Tony, all of Safford. Three nieces; Arla Anderson, Mary Roberts, and Charlotte Lowe. Two nephews, George Penagraph, and Hezekiah Lowe Jr., all of Dallas Texas, four great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the First Southern Baptist Church of Thatcher, 2934 W. 8th St., Thatcher. Friends may call on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the Caldwell Chapel.
