Eugene J. Skillicorn Skilly Together Forever Dad, grandfather and Gpa Eugene J. Skillicorn passed away peacefully, with his family surrounding him, on Monday, July 23, 2007 in West Valley City, Utah. Dad was born March 30, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Earlec Henry and Ida Pearl Russell Skillicorn. He attended Jackson Elementary, Jackson Jr. High and West High School. During WWII he entered the US Army and served in Belgium and Germany as a tank driver. Dad met mom, Lois Jean Huggard, at the S & M Skating Rink and they were married July 21, 1948 (last Saturday would have been their 59th anniversary). Dad joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in September 1979 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad was called as a veil worker at the Jordan River Temple where he served faithfully on Wednesdays for 18 years. Dad worked for the State of Utah, Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, and then went to work for Kennecott where he retired after 32 years of service in the tank house. Dad loved to fly fish the creek that runs in front of the cabin up Little Cottonwood Canyon. He loved to travel. Before Mom passed away they traveled to Germany, Holland, Belgium, England and Austria and to California to visit friends and to take temple excursions. Dad also looked forward to his monthly dinner group parties. Dad will be greatly missed by his three daughters and their families: Kent and Susan Carothers, Bob and Pat Shanda and Debra Skillicorn; also survived by his three grandsons: Rick and Lori Carothers, Chad and Kiristie Carothers (Justin and Cassie Tedrow) and Stanley and Angela Marvidakis. He adored his four great-grandchildren: Randi, Brayden, Kennedy and Ryan Carothers; nephew, Lynn (Carleen) Skillicorn; niece, Joyce Johnson; sister-in-law, Louise Huggard Hall. Preceded in death by his wife, Lois, January 17, 2000; brothers: Earl D. and Lynn; parents, Earlec and Ida Skillicorn. His family would like to thank Linda Cox from Promise Wound Clinic and her staff, Rocky Mountain Rehab Center, The Legacy of Taylorsville Assisted Living (he just loved his bachelor pad and all the staff for the past 3 months) especially to his CNA, Kiley, and Valerie, his home care nurse from Haven Home. A very big thank you to Dr. Blanche, his nurse, Ann, case manager, Connie, and to the ICU staff at Pioneer Valley Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2007, 1:00 p.m. at the Taylorsville 1st Ward, 4845 South Woodhaven Drive (1350 W.). The family will hold a viewing Friday, July 27, 2007, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 12-12:45 p.m. prior to services. Dad will be laid to rest next to Mom, whom he has missed for the past seven years, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
