Evelyn Jane Mattice Alder was born on October 1, 1932 in Pima, Arizona to W.B. and Janie Mattice. She passed away July 8, 2013 at the age of 80 in Mesa, Arizona. She attended twelve years of school in Pima and also attended Eastern Arizona Junior College and Arizona State University. On January 26, 1952, she married the love of her life, Joe Alder, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fulfilling many callings including in the Primary, Young Women, Sunday School, Relief Society president and teacher. She and Joe traveled to Mesa and were temple workers for 10 years. One of her greatest loves was sharing her musical talent as chorister of the Relief Society Singing Mothers and other choirs. She sang many solos for special programs including the Messiah. Evelyn loved to sew, cook, toll paint, research family history and was an avid reader. She and Joe thoroughly enjoyed supporting and traveling to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildrens athletic events along with their church and school activities. She spent many hours working on the ranch alongside her husband and family continuing the legacy left by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Joe Alder of 61 years, son, Scott (Joyce) Alder of Pima; daughters, Jann, (Ric) Lines of Snowflake, and Jane (Daryl) Seymore of Show Low; twelve grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.B. and Janie Mattice, and her four brothers, Len, Rue, Seth and Bruce. Funeral services for Evelyn will be Saturday, July 13, at the Pima LDS Stake Center at 10 a.m. with visitation Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Pima LDS Stake Center and an hour before services.
