Frederick Todd

March 22, 1916 — August 21, 2006

Frederick William Todd 1916---2006 Frederick William Todd, 90, passed away August 21, 2006. He was born March 22, 1916 in Granger, Utah to Charles Orson and Martha Mae Moesser Todd. He married his Sweetheart Veryle Ruth Tietjen November 7, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple, she preceded him in death. He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling many positions, and serving a Midwest mission with Veryle in 1975. He served in the Salt Lake and Jordan River temples for over twenty years. Fred loved truth regardless of its origin. Those who knew him treasured his knowledge and wisdom. His life was filled with religion, physics, math, history, archeology, astronomy, art and aviation. Newton, Galileo and Einstein were favorites of Freds because they relied on a higher source for their knowledge. He studied daily until age prohibited it a favorite statement of Freds was Time changes everything and every Body. There was no end to Freds creativeness. He loved designing and engineering. Anything he built was corroborated by math. Fred never touched a calculator, his calculations were performed using a pencil and pad, and many formulas were of his own creation. Airplanes were a favorite in his youth; most models were of unique design. Everything comprising the airplane was made from scratch engine block, crankshaft, heads, valves, valve covers, spark plugs, nuts and bolts and propeller. Instead of decals, emblems were applied with paint and brush. Freds artistic abilities were detailed and beautiful. Many oil paintings adorn the walls of his childrens homes. His artistic abilities began in his early teens; cardboard was used in place of canvas. His children loved to challenge him to draw an animal or some other object, and he would always begin in an area hard to recognize and would draw with ease until the figure was complete. Fred began his own business before 1938 and named it Todd Welding & Machine Company (Twamco was the logo); many hard hours were devoted to the young business. Initially the business focused on farm repairs but soon became involved in Heavy Equipment Trailer Manufacturing. When Fred received his draft notice he prepared for military service, however local farmers had different ideas and they protested his notice stating they would be out of business if he left. The farmers prevailed. Besides repairs Fred built tractors for farmers during the war. Soon after the war, Utah and surrounding states were dotted with his trailers. Later, sales reached far away places such as Alaska and Hawaii. Trailers were shipped to Cape Kennedy, EG&G Idaho, Morton Thiokol, Kennecott Copper, Harris Truck and Equipment and hundreds of other reputable businesses. In spite of worldly success Dads family remained most important to him. Family gatherings were always fun and delightful; desert trips were educational and exciting. There is so much joy in a family Dad always said, I have the best children on earth and I could say something good about each and every one of them. To his young children books and movies paled in comparison to Dads stories of Danny the bear, Sammy the snake, Squeaky the squirrel and Blacky the crow. His children enjoyed a measure of control while hearing these stories, and at given points would plead with their Dad to change story details in order to reduce their anxieties. We love our father and will miss him dearly but know he is in a wonderful place and we will see him again. Survived by his two sons: Allen W. (Carol) and Charles F. Todd, both of Taylorsville; five daughters, Sherron Callister, St. George; Ruth Nelson (Joe) St. George; Koleen Bingham (Lewis) Bountiful; Martie (Steele) Smith (Mark), West Valley City; and Kathy Ann Webster (Dennis), Taylorsville, 30 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and one brother, Edgar L.
