In Loving Memory of Gary Roberts
Our beloved "Poppy", Gary Lee Roberts, left earth to be with his Heavenly Father on September 18, 2017, at the age of 64.
Gary was born on August 8, 1953 to Naida & Clay Roberts in Patterson, California. Soon after, his family moved and planted roots in Silver City, New Mexico. He attended High School in Silver City where he graduated in 1971. It was there that he met the love of his life, Sharolyn Oberg. Shortly after getting together, they moved off to North Carolina to begin their story. They were married on October 25, 1973. Work took them all over the United States; and 5 years later, they were blessed with their son - Gary's pride and joy - Cody Wade Roberts. They continued their adventures moving all over, finally settling down in Silver City, NM. Gary went to work in Arizona for different contractors at the mine close to home and wound up in Morenci, AZ. Sharolyn followed Gary to Morenci and Cody followed soon after, remaining there as a family until Gary's last day.
Gary led an adventurous life and had many passions. He really liked the great outdoors; camping, hiking, campfires, backpacking, and exploring. He acquired a love for airplanes, which lead to him becoming a pilot. He enjoyed archery and hunting, whether he was hiking with guns or stalking with his bow. He had a passion for guns, from pistols to rifles. Gary had many loves and things that he enjoyed doing, but none was ever more than his love for his wife, his love for his boy, his love for his two grandchildren and his four-legged son Rascal. The love he had for his family was closely followed by the love he had for the many friends that he made along the way. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharolyn Sue Oberg Roberts of Pleasanton, NM; his son, Cody Roberts of Morenci, AZ; his grandsons Tra Roberts of Morenci, AZ and Adam Roberts of Duncan, AZ his brother Calvin Roberts and his wife Sharon of Coeur d'Alene, ID; his brother Aaron Roberts of Glenwood, NM; his nieces & nephews, and many friends and family that he met along his great adventure called life.
As we celebrate the life of Gary Roberts, remember - This is not goodbye, this is only a "see you later".
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glenwood Park in Glenwood, NM.
