Gene Robert Larson, a beloved member of the Safford community, joined his beloved wife Joyce in eternity on June 7, 2024, in Safford, Arizona. He was born on January 14, 1930, to Tilford Larson & Mary Price Larson in the same city where he lived a fulfilling life and left a lasting impact on those around him.
Gene Robert was a man of many talents and passions. From his days as a young sailor serving in the Navy Reserve Seaman 3rd Class to his successful career as a Farmer and Owner of GRL Construction, Gene Robert always approached life with dedication and hard work. His love for farming and construction shone through in everything he did.
Education was also essential to Gene Robert. A graduate of Safford High School and Gila Jr. College (now known as Eastern Arizona College), he valued learning and personal growth throughout his life. Gene Robert's commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as he continuously sought out opportunities to expand his knowledge.
Family meant everything to Gene Robert Larson. On June 1, 1950, he married the love of his life, Joyce Reed, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Together they built a beautiful family filled with love and joy. Gene Robert is survived by his children Kent (Rose) Larson, Beverly (Eldon) DeKay, Dale Reed Larson, Susan (LaRon) Garrett, Daniel (Dana) Larson, and Mons (Alice) Larson. He was also a proud grandfather to 26 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his human family, Gene leaves behind numerous cherished cats and dogs that were an integral part of his life.
Gene Robert's list of proudest accomplishments would undoubtedly include the loving family he raised with Joyce and the relationships he nurtured over the years. He served on the Graham County Electric Co-op board for 28 years, also on the Arizona Electric Co-op board, the Grand Canyon State Electric board and the Graham County Planning & Zoning commission for 49 years. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gene Robert & Joyce served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bolivia, and several short missions in Peru, Guatemala, and Ecuador.
In his free time, Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, working on various projects around the farm or construction sites, and indulging in his passion for flying. His hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and zest for life.
A viewing will be held at the McDougal Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford on June 19 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Additional viewings will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Solomon on June 20 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM. Gene will be laid to rest at Graham Cemetery in Safford at noon on June 20.
Gene Larson will forever be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, dedication to his work, and gentle soul that touched the lives of many. Though he may have departed this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Gene Robert Larson - a true inspiration to us all.
