Biography
George William Teeling, Sr., 83, passed away April 27, 2011 in Safford, AZ. George was born to Clara Helene Schuster & Clarence Joseph Teeling on July 4, 1927 in Chicago, IL.
He was drafted into the army at age 17, while still in High School, and served as combat Military Police during the end of WWII. He later completed his G.E.D. and vocational training.
George met and fell in love with Clara Eva Hayden and on December 10, 1948, they were married in Chicago, IL. To this union were added 6 children; George Jr., Georgene, Robert, James, Michael & Suzanne. They lived in Willcox for 47 years before moving to Safford.
George worked 32 years for Mountain Bell as a central office technician converting magneto to rotary dial. He also worked for Rock Island Railroad as journeyman machinist with steam and diesel engines. He served as past Exalted Ruler and charter member of P.B.O. Elks Lodge, President of Willcox Lions Club, member of the American Legion and 20 years as Planning & Zoning Commissioner.
He loved hunting & fishing, and working in his community. He was also involved in the Scouting program with his children. He and his son worked on many wood and metal projects in his shop.
George is preceded in death by his parents; Clara & Clarence Teeling, his sister Gladys Haskell, and 1 grandchild.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Clara Eva, children; George Jr. (Coleen), Georgene, Robert (Patricia), James, Michael and Suzanne Teeling, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima at 2:00 p.m. with viewing at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery.
