Gerda Davis In Loving Memory Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Gerda Marie Andersen Davis, died peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, August 29, 2010. She was born October 24, 1933 in Hasseris, Denmark to Jens and Harriet Andersen. Her siblings included Gorm, Max, Grethe, Lydia, Maja, and a sister who died in infancy. A noble queen and faithful daughter of God, Gerda lived a beautiful and full life. She had a happy childhood growing up in Aalborg, Denmark despite the trials of WWII. She studied accounting in business college, earning top honors. At age19, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and left her homeland to start a new life in America. She remained true to her Danish heritage while embracing her American citizenship. Her first years were spent primarily in Southern California where she met and married Paul D. Davis, later divorced. After living in many places, the family settled in the Salt Lake area in 1971 and made Utah their home. Gerda was an amazing homemaker, mastering the skills of cooking, sewing, and knitting. She worked for many years as a Financial Analyst for the Bureau of Reclamation. She also served in the baptistry at the Salt Lake Temple and in many other church callings. Because of her genuine care and concern for others, she generously supported many local and global humanitarian causes. She traveled extensively, embracing people of all cultures and walks of life-- always finding the best in people. Many treasured her zest for life and spirited personality. Truly a classy and elegant lady, she was always dressed up for any occasion. Always active, she loved to walk and compete in local races. She especially loved walking in the sunshine with her grandchildren in tow. Grandma Gerda devoted her life to her family, teaching them the importance of hard work, perseverance, and courage. Her unwavering faith and devotion to God was constant throughout her life. Her grandchildren will miss her encouraging smile at all their activities. She looked forward to reuniting with her parents, her sister Grethe, and brothers Max and Gorm who preceded her in death. Gerda is survived by her children: Lis (Howard) Green, Paul E. (Andrea) Davis, Cary (Brenda) Davis; nine grandchildren; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
