Hattie Patton

Hattie "Janet" Shelley Patton was born on April 2, 1938 to Worthington McKindree & Lois (McClain) Shelley in Silver City, New Mexico. Janet was an identical twin. She and her twin sister attended Cliff schools in Cliff, New Mexico and finished her with her high school diploma in May of 1956. After graduation, she began attending Western New Mexico University. Janet & Barney Patton were High school sweethearts who were married in March of 1957. Their first son Jessie Jarett Patton was born in December of 1957, some would call that a honeymoon baby. She went on to finish her bachelors degree in Secondary Education at Western New Mexico University, graduating in May of 1960. After graduation Barney & Janet moved to Grants, New Mexico where Jerrie Janene Patton (Ward) was born. She came into their lives in April of 1962. The family then moved to Tucson, Arizona for a teaching job at Rincon High school. They resided in Tucson until 1976. While in Tucson, Janet & Barney joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They then had two more children; Jye Jerome Patton born in July of 1969 and then Jean Lovena Patton (Metcalf) born in January of 1971. As a family they moved to Huachuca City, Arizona on a small cattle ranch. The family stayed there from 1976 to 1977. They then moved to Tombstone, Arizona on another cattle ranch. The family stayed in Tombstone till 1979. The family made their final move to the Gila Valley in the spring of 1979. Janet & Barney purchased the old Ned Daley ranch, that ran to the top of Mount Graham, to Marihilda and then over to Fry Mesa. Janet has lived in the Gila valley from 1979 until her passing on September 11, 2023. She is survived by her sister Carol Carroll of Duncan, her four children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, and 19 great grand children. A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ft. Thomas Chapel beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. with interment in the Emery Cemetery.
