Hazel Winterhalter Carlin, 101, of Pima, entered into rest on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Mulberry House in Pima. She was born on November 5, 1912 in Canton, OH, to John C. Winterhalter and Bessie Byerly Winterhalter. Hazel graduated from the McKinley High School in 1930. She was married to George Carlin and they moved to Arizona and settled in Pima in 1947. After the passing of her husband in 1960, Hazel, on her own, raised her four children to be very successful adults. She was a 35 year employee of Long Theatres in Arizona. During her working years, she devoted much of her time to instilling work ethics in the youth here in the Gila Valley. Her caring and guidance of her young employees created life long friendships. She was an avid crocheter who loved to give her beautiful afghans to friends and family. She is survived by her sons, Paul of Safford, Don (Kerri) Carlin of Henderson, NV, and George Carlin of Chandler; daughter-in-law, Mollie Carlin; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960; her daughter, Jean; and grandson, Jamie. Hazel had great sense of humor that will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church in Safford with Reverend Paul Schultz officiating.
