Herminia C. Montez, 83, of Clifton, AZ, passed away January 29, 2017 in Tucson, AZ. She was born April 25, 1933 in Metcalf, AZ to Pedro & Vicenta Castaneda.
She was raised in and attended schools in Clifton, AZ and graduated from Clifton High School. She moved to Los Angeles, CA and lived there for 20 years before returning to Clifton in the mid 70's. Herminia retired from Clifton Public Schools.
Herminia was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Guadalupana's, the American Auxiliary and Club Verde. She was a woman of faith with great love for her family and friends. She was known as a charitable woman who was actively involved in her church and her community.
She is survived by her sons; Ernesto D. Montez, Jr. and Geno Montez and her daughter Elaine Montez. She is also survived by her sisters; Esther Chacon, Tila Gregorian, Margie Montez and Sally McGovern, 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Herminia was preceded in death by her parents Pedro Sr., and Vicenta Loya Castaneda, her sons Eddie Montez and Eric Montez and her siblings Ernesto (Sorra) Castaneda, Pedro Castaneda, Jr. and Rachel Montoya.
The three words that most describe Herminia are loving, caring and giving.
There will be a viewing followed by the Rosary on Thursday, February 9, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clifton. The Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with inurnment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Morenci following the services.
