Herschel Henderson

February 21, 1939 — March 31, 2014

Herschel M. Henderson, 75, passed from this life on March 31, 2014 at the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. He moved to Arizona in 1972 residing in Sahuarita before moving to Graham County in 2005. He was born February 21, 1939 on the Northern family farm in Willow Grove, IN to Herschel D. and Cordia Northern Henderson. He was the fourth born of 8 children. He attended schools in Morgan County, IN, the Weir Cook Vocational Training (Diesel Mechanics), Lincoln Technical Institute (Certified Automatic Transmission Mechanic) and Pima Community College, EMT. His trade being a diesel mechanic he worked for Duval Mine Corp, Sahuarita and retired from the former Phelps Dodge Chino Mine in N.M. He also taught diesel mechanics in Ping Shou, China at AnTaiBao open pit coal mine. He enjoyed outdoor activities with his family; camping, boating, picnics and fishing. As a volunteer for the U.S. Forest Service he was a campground host in Indiana and Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Juanita Calvert, and five children, Donna, Victoria, John, Eugenie, and Michelle, and 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He is survived by four brothers, Marvin, George, Frank, and Loren, plus a sister Margie. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Thurman; son, David; two grandchildren, Dakota and Savannah; and a great-grandson, Keenen. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at Roper Lake State Park from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
