On Saturday, July 20, 2019, Hershel Eugene Money, loving husband and father of three, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 surrounded by his family. Hershel was born on August 1, 1939 in Apopka, Florida, son of Ottis "Tot" Money.
Hershel was raised in Apopka where he attended Apopka High School. During this time he enjoyed playing sports such as football, basketball and baseball. He also played the drums in the school marching band. He was an accomplished swimmer and diver. In his senior year, he was 2nd in the State High School Diving Championships.
After high school, Hershel joined the United States Army and enjoyed being in the Drum & Bugle Corps for three years. Hershel met the love of his life, Sandra Gail DeLaura, in Menomenee Falls, Wisconsin and they were later married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on April 28, 1962. Together they had three children, Michael Gene, Marcus Hershel and Michelle Marie.
The family lived in Chicago, Illinois where Hershel worked and apprenticed to become a Master Machinist at Verson's Allsteel Presses Company. They later moved and raised their family in Ely, Nevada. Sometime later, Hershel moved to Arizona where he worked for and later retired from Phelps Dodge Copper Company.
Hershel loved to ride motorcycles and was passionately involved in Auto racing as well as photography.
He is survived by his sons Michael and Marcus and his daughter Michelle, a sister-in-law, a niece and three nephews.
Hershel was preceded in death by his mother Ottis "Tot", his loving wife Sandra, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Clair and Lewis.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Duncan, Arizona beginning with a viewing at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 9:00 and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Safford Cemetery following services.
