Hettie Simmons Grannie Hettie Leatham Hickman Simmons, 91, died January 23, 2008 in Taylorsville, Utah. She was born July 9, 1916 in Wellsville, Utah, daughter of Howard Painter and Hilda Wheatley Leatham. Married Joseph B. Hickman in San Luis Obispo, CA in 1941; he died in 1955. Married Eldon Doug Simmons in 1957 in Salt Lake City; he died July 9, 1980. Spent her early years in Wellsville and moved to Salt Lake City in 1931. Graduated from East High School and Utah State College where she was a member of Chi Omega. Worked for Mountain Bell for 31 years retiring in 1978. Spent many hours as a volunteer in different organizations. She was a member of the LDS Church, Telephone Pioneers of America and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed traveling, many friends and chocolate. She said she had already done everything she wanted to do in this life. Survivors include daughter, Heather Ann (Rolf) Scheidegger, Benglen, Switzerland; son, Stephen (LaDonna) Hickman, West Valley City; stepdaughter, Katheryn (Vance) Bennett, Syracuse, UT; sister, Dorothy Larsen; 5 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; 13 step great-great grandchildren. Also preceded in death by parents; son, Joseph Howard Pat Hickman; brother, Howard B. Leatham. Hetties family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff and friends who have helped care for and provide a wonderful and somewhat independent living environment for Hetties last couple of years at the Golden Living Center, as well as Harmony Hospice who were a comforting help at the end of a well-lived life. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be held Monday, 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 12-12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
