Horace Carter

Horace "C" Carter, age 93 of Pima was called to rest at his daughters home in St. Johns on Jan. 1, 2014. Horace was born to Willman Carter and Polly Matthews Carter on May 27, 1920 in Glenbar, Arizona. He worked on the family farm in Glenbar until he was drafted in 1941. He served in the Field Artillery motor pool in the European Theatre until l945. He met and married the love of his life, Olas Taylor in 1946 after getting to know each other for three weeks. They were married for 62 years and were parents of two daughters, Harriet Ann and Pam. Their family was sealed in the Mesa, Arizona temple on May 27, 1955 and became an eternal family. They spent most of their lives in Pima, where Horace worked for Weech & Taylor and D.B. Nelson (in Safford). Horace was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has been privileged to serve in many capacities in the church. He was honest and hard-working all his life and expected others to be the same. He loved his wife and girls and all his family. He felt it a privilege to be born of good parents and was proud of his family. He is survived by his daughter Pam and her husband Ross Carpenter of St. Johns, Arizona, son-in-law Byron Felix of Pima, eight grand-children and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He has three surviving sisters, Wilma Rhinehart and Nathalene Green (Max) of Safford and Reva Allred (Gary) of Santaquin, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife Olas, daughter Harriet Ann, great grand-daughter Dashiel Sonora, brothers Morris, Art and Jay and his parents. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Pima LDS Chapel and again on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. with funeral services at 10 a.m. in the Old LDS Pima Chapel, in Pima, AZ.
