Houston Dunagan

Biography Houston Hoot Dunagan, 79 of York Valley passed away May 1, 2010 in Safford. He was born in Clifton on March 16, 1931 and graduated from Clifton High School in 1950. He became interested in horses as a young boy and later expanded into ranching. He worked summers on local ranches while in high school and eventually attained a small ranch of his own. He married Verna in 1954 and left for the Army shortly after. He served two years in parts of Germany. He worked for over 30 years for Phelps Dodge retiring in 1986. Hoot is survived by his wife Verna, daughter Erin, 2 grandsons, 4 great grandchildren who brought him great joy in his later years; one brother and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, granddaughter, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Viewing will begin at 6 p.m. and Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Sacred Heart Church in Clifton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Bardo on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Hoot will be laid to rest in the Sheldon Cemetery with military honors.
