Gertie Imogene Pounds, 87, of Safford passed away October 23, 2009 in Prescott, Arizona after a courageous battle with cancer. Imogene was one of twelve children born to John Pettis and Gertie Ethel Henderson, on a dairy farm near Wichita Falls, Texas. She married Bill Pounds on August 6, 1941, and in 1948 they moved to Arizona with their two young daughters. They settled in Morenci where Bill was employed by Phelps Dodge. Their free time was spent with friends, or fishing with their grandchildren. Imogene and Bill later retired to Safford. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband Bill Pounds, two grandchildren, Brady Standage and Kendra Barry, eight sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters Sharlotte (Joe) Perez of Safford and Pamela (Jim) Copland of Prescott, sister Johnnie May Fuller of Wichita Falls, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, October 30 in the Safford Cemetery at 1 p.m.
